Mission, Vision, & Values

Go & make disciples...

Our Mission:

Harbor Church exists to:
H – Help People Find and Follow Jesus
A – Anchor Our Lives to Jesus
R – Raise Up the Next Generation of Jesus Followers
B – Bridge the Gap Between Belief and Practice
O – Overflow with Love, Compassion, and Sacrifice
R – Resist a Yacht Club Mentality—We’re Not Here for Ourselves

Our Vision:

At Harbor Church, we believe rescued people rescue people. We are a search-and-rescue crew for the spiritually lost, broken, and searching, anchored in Christ and sent into the waves.

Our Values:

Jesus is Our Compass
Hebrews 12:1-3
1. Compasses Don't Correct Drift; You Have to Stop & Realign.
• Hebrews 12:1b
• We don't recalibrate because we're lost; we recalibrate because drift is normal.
• Movement does not mean alignment.
• We don't drift into sin as much as we drift away from Jesus.
• If someone followed Jesus the way I'm following Him right now, where would they
end up?

2. Direction Comes From Fixation, Not Feelings
• Hebrews 12v2a
• A compass works because it's aligned to something outside itself

3. Jesus is Both the Starting Point and the Standard
• Hebrews 12:2b
• Jesus is the reference point for EVERYTHING in our lives.
• Our success as a church will not be measured by the size of our budget, the head
count on Sunday mornings, or the existence of our own building. Our success as a
church will be measured by our alignment with Jesus Christ.

4. Endurance Comes from Orientation
• Hebrews 12v3
• Faithfulness to God doesn't mean trying harder; faithfulness to God happens as we
orient our lives towards Jesus.
Diagnostic Questions:
• What has been quietly shaping my decisions more than Jesus?
• What is Jesus actively calling me to throw off?

Shine Like Lighthouses
Matthew 5:14-16

Identity Comes Before Activity
• Matthew 5:14
• You cannot measure darkness - you can only measure how much light is missing.
• A hidden or misplaced light contradicts its identity.

Light is Meant to be Visible, NOT Private or Misplaced
• Matthew 5:15
• Private and/or misdirected faith both fail the light test.

Jesus Defines How Light Shines: Visible Obedience
• Matthew 5:16a
• Light doesn't make noise - it changes everything by being present
• Shining isn't noisy holiness - it's visible faithfulness

The Purpose of Shining is Direction NOT Recognition
• Matthew 5:16
• If people see us but don't see Jesus, the light is off.

Light Matters Most When Darkness is Real
• Matthew 5:14-16 (yes, the whole passage again)

Diagnostic Questions
• Is your life clearly helping people find Jesus — or could it be confusing them?
• Where has your light gone dim through comfort, fear, or silence?
• Who in your life is navigating darkness — and you’re close enough to guide them?

2 Corinthians 9:6-11

Generosity Begins With the Law of Sowing
• 2 Corinthians 9:6
