As Christians, How Should We Respond to Someone in Our Life Who's Actively Choosing Sin?

May 17, 2026    Mark Cress

When we encounter sin in others' lives, our response should be guided by Scripture rather than emotion. Before confronting anyone, we must first examine our own hearts and motives, ensuring our goal is restoration rather than superiority. For non-believers, we should focus on sharing the gospel rather than behavior modification, as we cannot expect kingdom behavior from those who haven't surrendered to the King. With fellow believers, Jesus provides a clear process in Matthew 18: go privately first, then with witnesses, then to church leadership if necessary. The key is approaching others gently with love and truth combined, remembering that silence is not love when someone is walking toward destruction.
