Asking For a Mom

May 10, 2026    Mark Cress

Modern motherhood comes with crushing expectations - endless patience, perfect homes, and constant availability while maintaining physical and spiritual health. Yet Scripture reveals a different truth: even Jesus withdrew for solitude and rest. When we understand that needing breaks isn't failure but humanity, we can parent from a healthier foundation.

Jochebed's story provides a powerful example of faithful mothering in hostile circumstances. Facing Pharaoh's death decree for Hebrew boys, she protected Moses as long as possible, then courageously placed him in God's hands by setting him in the Nile River. Her faith during those early years shaped Moses so profoundly that he later chose his Hebrew identity over Egyptian privilege. This demonstrates how a mother's influence extends far beyond her immediate control.

Building a legacy of faith requires walking personally with Jesus first, since children inherit practiced priorities rather than stated ones. Spiritual conversations should become natural parts of daily life, and parents must model authentic repentance when they fail. The power of godly homes lies not in dramatic moments but in consistent, faithful habits over time. Perfect moms don't raise perfect kids, but faithful mothers can point their children toward a perfect Savior.
