Make Us One

In John 17, Jesus prays for His disciples and for every believer who would come after them, including us. Four key truths emerge from this prayer: Jesus is the anchor connecting us to the Father; God's desire for glory is not self-centered but entirely fitting for the center of the universe; our loves must be rightly ordered with Jesus at the center; and the mission Jesus carried is now the mission He gives to us. Perhaps most striking of all, Jesus prayed for you personally by name before you were ever born. He is still interceding for you now. The unity He prays for in John 17 is not about avoiding conflict or agreeing on everything. It is a witness to the watching world, modeled after the unity of the Trinity itself.
